Blogosphere

I enjoy reading Kathleen Parker. In this piece, though, she compares the blogosphere to "Lord of the Flies" and suggests we are just a bunch of unkempt children.

I have not really seen it. In my year or so of blogging, I find that even most of my detractors are reasonably polite, and I truly enjoy the give and take of it all.

I read quite a few blogs on a regular basis, and do not see things from her point of view.

"Say what you will about the so-called mainstream media, but no industry agonizes more about how to improve its product, police its own members and better serve its communities. Newspapers are filled with carpal-tunneled wretches, overworked and underpaid, who suffer near-pathological allegiance to getting it right."

I havn't seen much of this either.

Just read Parker's piece in the dead-tree edition and thought about posting it, but then stopped and wondered if this was just a cheap ploy by Parker to get some massive linkage of her own!

And like a-fire-fly and sallyt noted, it is absolutely ridiculous to claim that "no industry" more than journos cares more/works harder/blah-blah.
