Here we go again.

Our community nannies, the Tribune Editorial Board, ran an editorial today discussing the recent spike in highway fatalities. They lauded the State's intention to rebuild some roads and hire more Highway Patrol officers in an effort to stem the growth.

I always figured that highway deaths were caused by people driving too fast, too carelessly, under the influence, or by weather condition. Once again, though, our editorial writers prove that there is no problem that does require government intervention...and government intervention...and government intervention.

Longtime Tribune readers will recall their push to have the speed limit reinstated, for mandatory seatbelt laws, for highway safety ad campaigns, for open container laws, and for tougher DUI laws. Make you a deal: I'll slow down on the highways, if you slow down on curbing my freedom.

Back when the Tribune and other Liberal media were campaigning for the day time speed limit, they did much the same kind of writing. The only problem is that MOST of the highway deaths occur at night. Something like 70-80%. The funny thing is there already was a SPEED LIMIT for night driving so if the speed limit was going to help cut the death rate, how could the day time speed limit cut the NIGHT TIME death rate. More liberal babysitting.

I smile everytime I read one of the Trib's "well reasoned" articles. Someone better let them know that Paris Gibson is now scheduled to close.

Glad I stopped my subscription to Pravda West.
