I had to laugh
As you all know, the Tribune runs a little non-scientific poll every day where people can go to their website or call in to 'vote' on a particular question. The question on Monday, May 2, was "Should there be less separation between church and state in America?" 271 people called in, or 1 person called in 271 times, or something like that. Anyway, there were roughly 105 calls in favor of reducing separation and 165 opposed. But what caught my eye was the little quote that they ran that the staff apparently feels caught the gist of the callers.
The quote said: "The religious right is strangling the freedoms of our country." I started thinking about that, and thought what a good job the left has done instilling that thought in our mind: Beware the religious right. They are after your freedom.
Hmmm, is it true?
Let's see, a person can't look at pornography any more. Oh, wait, it's more readily accessible than ever before. Chalk one up for the irreligious left.
Gambling is gone. Oops, no, wait. More states allow it than ever before.
Abortion? Last time I checked it was still legal.
Adultery? The president did it and lied about it. And stayed in office.
Ah, the Patriot Act. But is that really a religious thing? Is it fair to characterize something as a religious issue just because its advocate is a religious person? No, the Patriot Act was more of a knee jerk reaction to 9/11.
Drinking? Still legal.
Campus speech codes? Oh, wait, those First Amendment violations come from the left.
Political correctness? Left again.
Anti-smoking? The left.
Who is pushing to limit your freedom to invest your retirement dollars where you want? Not our religious president. The left.
Who is pushing to limit your freedom to worship under the silly code name of "tolerance?" The left.
Who is limiting our freedom?
