Rules Violations?
I posted recently about Tom DeLay and all of the fuss in the media lately. Basically, I asked if anyone could tell me just what he did wrong.
In response, I received a comment from one person who a) said DeLay hasn't done anything Conrad Burns hasn't done, b) implied that Jack Abramoff made his clients give more than $300,000 to a group founded by Gale Norton (which I guess is some sort of per se wrongful act), and c) pasted into the comment a long article about Abramoff and Bush's connection to him. Now I don't want to insult anyone who takes the time and makes the effort to read what I have to say and respond to it, even if it's a sort of drive-by, guilt by association slam.
But reading the comment doesn't lead me any closer to the answer to my question: Just what has DeLay done wrong to warrant all of the breathless innuendo by our mainstream press?
And I am not a believer in defending one's actions by saying the other guy did the same thing. But in the case of a gray area (which DeLay's 'transgressions' seem to be), it certainly seems reasonable to look at the conduct of those similarly situated in order to determine the appropriate standard of care. In this case, it sure seems like everybody's doing the same types of things.
So, again, just what did DeLay do wrong?
