Headlines

I received an email from a friend today that I thought particularly cogent. He pointed out that if you were recruiting a new doctor to town, or perhaps if you were trying to lure "the Big One," you sure wouldn't want them to see today's headlines:

  • "Woman Slain in City Motel..."
  • "Son went shopping before reporting death..."
  • "Deputy accused of theft..."
  • "Meth getting worse..."
  • "Tier '3' Sex Offender moves to Great Falls..."
He went on to make some less than complimentary remarks about our incumbent Mayor and Commissioners before pleading for candidates to file by this Thursday's deadline. I agree with him. We need some competition in these races. I don't necessarily think all of our incumbents do a poor job, but geez, come on. A little competition is a good thing. We need something to shake up this little fiefdom.

Every time I have suggested to people that they run, I get a similar response: "That's an awful lot of meetings to go to for a few hundred bucks a month..."

That's true. Maybe it's time to switch to a full-time, paid commission like the county?

I noticed the same thing while surfing the Trib site late last night...arguably the "worst" news day since I arrived 3 years ago.
