Pay 'em?
Maybe we should apply this logic to our City Commission. After all, they have to attend an awful lot of meetings for a couple hundred dollars a month.

Actually, I think that is a good idea. Incidentally, the "cost" of a MC is higher than the author indicates. In addition to salary and benefits, MCs also receive a $1 Million office budget + franking privledge.
Paying our City Commission is an extremely good idea. I think that part of the reason that our commission is as inept as they appear is that you get what you pay for. In effect, they are our board of directors. They should be compensated for the job they do.
