Political Correctness

In the Tribune's call-in 'poll' question today, they ask: "Is it important that seasonal trees be called 'Christmas trees'?"

Seasonal trees???

Had the question been asked another way, my first response would have been "what else are you going to call a Christmas tree? Now we know.

And now I guess we know what the Trib thinks they should be called.

I sez they are Christmas trees. Always have been. Calling them anything else is a way around the religious conotations associated with the word Christmas to make them more acceptable to other religions. And the fact that if the city puts up a Holiday Tree in the courthouse they can claim it is not a religious symbol.

It's Jerry Falwell. Spelling... it's a good thing.

What the hell is a seasonal tree?

Calling a Christmas Tree anything other than a Christmas Tree just distracts from its real meaning.

For goodness sakes, it isn't even my holiday and I know what the tree really is and what it represents!
