Put us on the Map

We've seen an awful lot of discussion lately in the local blogosphere about economic development in our fair city. A piece in yesterday's Tribune gave me an idea.

The piece was about competition in education, and it postulated that our present system is failing us in the global environment. (The piece is reprinted here. If you need a username and password, try "jimzisk." Thanks to Bugmenot.)

After reading it, I started thinking about a corporate high school. What if our community were to open a private, or charter school? We would seek corporate 'sponsors' and in exchange for their subsidy, we would give them the right to influence the curriculum, and would give them exclusive or priority recruiting privileges.

The only limitations would be that the school would have to meet state curriculum standards, would have to be academically rigorous, and would have to prove its worth through testing.

Tuition would be by scholarship initially, but our friends at the City would lobby hard for state support through vouchers or otherwise.

Anyone? Anyone?

There is nothing more powerful than an IDEA who's time has come. Isn't it about time for SCHOOL CHOICE?

Why stop there, the people in Fox Farm should be allowed to charter their own Fire Department and Police Department! Afterall, the rich deserve the finest, along wit the tax breaks that vouchers would bring.

I am not sure I understand that point. How do vouchers result in tax breaks?

Walmart should build a school. That is the future of the American economy, the "high paying" service sector. They could start brain washing the little ones early.
