In your blog you have maintained that Sam Harris was immoral for causing Mike Smartt great public humiliation and ultimately costing him his job. You have publicly humiliated Harris. Now he has resigned because of the hardship to his family caused by your relentless pursuit.

You and your supporters, none identified by name, smugly mock those who publish dissent anonymously while trafficking in gossip. You can attack me, I expect you will. However, someone should act as the voice of conscience in the face of this ugliness. You are angry and attack because you know that you have acted just as immorally as you say Harris did.

Interesting statement from Judge Harris. Was he trying to say that he is withdrawing from the JP race even though his name is printed on the ballot or is he saying something else?

Other than the consequences of his own documented decisions, what has happened to hurt his family?

I do hope he finds some peace in his family and out of the public eye. He doesn't deserve to be demonized. It must be a difficult decision to resign, but his wife and children are still able to welcome him home. At the end of the day isn't that what it's all about.

By being able to go home at night to his wife and kids, Harris has more than he allowed Mike Smartt - he should count himself fortunate. Relentless pursuit, Anon? This blog brought to light facts that the newspaper wouldn't touch - and I said FACTS, all or most documented by public records.
Harris is a victim of his own hubris - look that up in your Funk and Wagnall.

Do not be fooled by this political ploy. If Harris is serious about this and not just doing this for the sympathy factor, he would simply write a one line letter to the County Election Administrator and withdraw from the race. Until he does, he is still in this race and his resignation is meaningless as his term expires on Dec. 31st anyway. So if he doesn't formally withdraw from the race, what is the point? To lull his opponent into a false sense of security and hopefully garner voter sympathy? You decide.

Anonymous, again, I don't think the fact that you are angry and insulting supports your position that this is somehow moral. If you take pleasure in the fact that Harris is apparently suffering then I pity you. Life will undoubtedly have some hard knocks for you. It will be painful for you to realize that others are watching and enjoying your suffering.

To the first anon,

If you respect Sam Harris and his decision, honor his request not to continue the bitter fight. Think what you might, but partisan attacks now are pointless, from either side.

To the second and fourth anons,

Accept him at his word. He has always been true to it. You may recall, if you have read carefully, that I have taken issue only with Judge Harris, in his decisions. I respect Sam Harris the man. He is stepping away, no matter what, for the benefit of his family.

To everyone,

There is no dishonor in stepping aside. There is honor in healing wounds and moving forward. There is dishonor in lashing out against your foes after the battle has ended--either by a smug victor, or bitter defeated.

You are missing the point- Harris has not withdrawn from the political race. Until he withdraws with the elections office there is stll a campaign to run. He is still in the race. This political gesture is meaningless by itself. If he somehow pulls off an election day miracle, due to public sympathy, what will then surely follow is a statement from Harris that, upon reconsideration, it is now in the best interest of his family to go ahead and serve out his new term. What will you say then? If he wants out he needs to formally get out.

After researching the issue a bit, it appears that there is no way to "formally get out."

If you can file your nomination for office you can withdraw your nomnation. There is nothing in the law that says you can't. Even if his name is stll on the ballot, the results of the election would be null and void if he has withdrawn prior to the election. e.g. several of the initiatives.

i think what some poeple are not thinking of is all the poeple that he has wronged. not only in his court room but in the chatroom. every thing we do reflects on us as people we have to look at what we have done and take responabilty for what we say and do.if a judge can not look at both side of the story and actully listen to what is beening said before passing his own judgement what good is he. we fight every day for those little things in our life. this world is crul engouh but to be unjust to people is bad karma.

To the first commenter -- what planet are you living on?

This blog's investigations have let people know what's going on in *public* court hearings. At least Sam Harris won't have to be incarcerated like the many unwarranted targets of his courtroom fury. Perhaps he can now dedicate himself to getting a little counseling, learning some humility by practicing the law himself (and not merely pretending to adjudicate it), and gradually weaning himself from his pathological addiction to playing single-person shooter games during work hours.

If Sam Harris has become a reviled character, a laughing-stock in the community, he has no one to blame but himself.

Perhaps if he hadn't been such a hypocrite and jerk in general, I'd feel some sympathy for him. But at a certain point, people have to be responsible for their action -- holding a judgeship perpetually isn't someone's right, it's a very rare privilege that Sam Harris *clearly* does not deserve. The Hon. Sam Harris: good riddance.

to the last anon, maybe you need to go back and read Gee Guy's previous posts. The commissioners stated that after investigation it was determined that Harris's work computer was never used to access the site.

GeeGuy said...

Actually, that's not exactly true. Commissioner Joe Briggs said "I can be sure that at least since mid June, no County Computers have been used to access these sites." [Emphasis mine]

Good riddance to bad rubbish as far as I am concerned. Nice work on reporting what Harris has done.
