Gated Community

I was interested in this comment to an earlier post:

"That is the same liberal democrat tripe that brought us "diversity" and "inclusiveness." Everyone's got an opinion about everything, even on issues they are absolutely clueless about."

Nope, I think that's a bad response to the poster who was offering the explanation to the gated community of the "rich" in GF.

Why in G's name do WE need a gated community....OH, I know-egalitarianism.

We have a gated community in Great Falls? Where?

And as far as why we "need" it, we don't "need" it. If it exists at all, someone wanted it. They built it. Private property, and all that...

Well, there is one. At the end of Upper River Road. It has maybe eight beautiful condos in it, with the best view of the Missouri River in the city. I mean, this is GF after all. But the gate part seems kinda silly. Feels more like your locked in than keeping the bad people out. I've worked in it. To me, it feels kinda creepy to be locked in with a bunch of other people. But the part in the post about "diversity" confuses me. I mean, how can anyone deny that we are a diverse nation, like it or not. How bout a show of hands. How many people here had grandparents whose first language was NOT English? Or maybe great grandparents? My hand is up.

A gated community is fine. Keeps the Orcs in one place.

The first part of that post was in response to an earlier one. And they are all responding to the posts about the attitude exhibited by those with money. Some of the wealthier amongst us somehow feel that due to their net worth they are entitled to run things and anyone else is "less" in their eyes.

Now, I'm not saying everyone with a healthy bank account and investments feels this way, they don't. But, those that do aren't shy about projecting that belief.

It is their money to build or buy what they wish in the way of a home. If they want a gated community, their right and go for it. But, I don't really want a person who feels compelled to segregate themselves from the "lesser mortals" to choose for the rest of us. I don't think their choices would reflect the true diversity within GF.

"Liberal tripe"? Maybe, but that feeling of being "better" than others is the same feeling projected by our current mayor and look where THAT'S gotten us.

This is a delicate area. While we obviously have to allow input from all citizens, can we not agree that some people are better equipped than others to lead or opinine? Can we not agree that opinions, ideas and suggestions from some people are substantively more reasoned, practical or intelligent than others?

To me the break line is not money, it's achievement. The fact that people who have achieved things often have more money is a byproduct. If we want ideas about economic development, do we focus our attention on businessmen or high school students?

Yes, unless some idiot thinks otherwise....

Nothing necessarily wrong with living in a gated community, if you can stand the covenants.

The real fun begins when Gladys Kravitz runs the homeowners association. Your garbage can is the wrong color, hedge over the limit, flowers wrong color, etc.

What as wonderful way to live.

Unlike bureaucrats who tell you what you can or cannot have in your yard?

Or a city forcing you to.....

have all the trees on your boulevard cut down and pay to replace the trees....

And when you appeal to the city & they agree to pay 1/2 the cost of the trees the city forces you to pay to have them planted or plant them yourself but you can't because your current health is such that you have to pay someone to do it....

But the city has enough money to pay 1.4 million to guarantee power payments?
