This Could Be Us.....

AEP to End Lawsuit, Pay to Cut Pollution

American Electric Power has agreed to end a lawsuit by paying $4.6 BILLION to reduce pollution.

If the Highwood Generating Station is built, not only could this be us, but probably will be.

Please explain to me how this will work when the Highwood Generating Station cartel gets sued down the road.

Will the City of Great Falls file a claim for environmental damages to the surrounding area but also find itself then a co-defendant in the case as 25% owner of HSG?

Yes but!! Yes but!! Yes but OURS is "clean" technology!...........Yeah RIGHT! It's only clean in the sense that the people of GF are getting TAKEN to the cleaners! And in that sense, it's very clean! The latest in clean!

Drawing parallels between HGS and AEP in regards to this lawsuit requires quite a twisting of the facts. Aren’t there enough facts to support being against the coal plant without resorting to the fabrication of improbable outcomes?

Wolfpack, I don't know anything about the AEP situation. Could you expand your point?

Its always amusing to see Larry Krjal jogging by the refinery happily inhaling hydrogen sulfide, sulfide dioxide, lead, mercury, carbon monoxide, particualte matter...

Geeguy- The 4.6 billion in pollution equipment that the judgment in the lawsuit requires is to bring plants up to current standards. HGS will be built to current standards from the get go so a similar lawsuit would be meaningless unless one believes that they will be allowed to start operation with no pollution controls. That supposition seems highly unlikely given the level of scrutiny they have enjoyed so far.

Is someone stalking me???? Wierd. But yes, I do run down by the refinery maybe four times a year. I take my cross country team down there for a diversion. And I try to hold my breath while going by the refinery. Actually, petrochemical pollutants are some of the worst. I'll let you talk to a twenty-five year employee of that refinery whose lungs are now shot from his work there. Was it worth it for him? I don't think so. So, the solution is to build even ANOTHER giant polluter. Don't seem to make much sense to me.

wolfpack, Stop twisting the facts. AEP was state-of-the-art when built with all the same spin as SME uses today.

All SME is doing is pushing liabilities forward, just like a DDT salesman on the day before the ban.

Yes anon, you are right, in 40 years SME's plant will be out of date too. Sorry for implying otherwise. At least we know now that when they rebuild there plant they will have to meet the new reg's like AEP has to.
