Omigosh!

The Tribune noted rocker Ted Nugent's recent appearance at the NRA as follows:

"Remember the Alamo! Shoot 'em! To show you how radical I am, I want carjackers dead. I want rapists dead. I want burglars dead. I want child molesters dead. I want the bad guys dead. No court case. No parole. No early release. I want 'em dead. Get a gun and when they attack you, shoot 'em."

This reasoned approach to justice and civilization was presented at last weekend's National Rifle Association convention in Houston.

It was shouted — to cheers of the assembled gun advocates — by rocker Ted Nugent, whose claim to fame now goes well beyond his three decades of so-so rock music.

He brandished an assault weapon in each hand as he urged NRA members to become "hardcore, radical extremists," to aggressively recruit new members, and to associate only with other NRA members.

Nugent will be playing — music — in Great Falls Aug. 5 on the next-to-last night of State Fair. We expect that money, not an NRA membership, will be the ticket to associate with him that night.

Three points. First, when's the last time you heard the Tribune call out a rapper for stuff like this? Oh, that's right, the rappers usually threaten policemen and women! The Trib's only offended if someone 'disses' the criminals.

Second, can't you just hear the condescension dripping from their keyboard? "This reasoned approach to justice and civilization..." Oh, those Tribune editorial writers are just...so...civilized. It almost rhymes with "sniveling." I'll let you decide which is more accurate.

Finally, it's called hyperbole. I would think that people who make their living with the written word, and win Pulitzer Prizes no less, would understand what I assumed was a pretty basic concept in the English language.

See: Sniveling.

P.S. Who are you guys to call his music "so-so?"

Was this written by Eric Newhouse by chance? I have noticed a slip in his "quality" of writing over the past few years.

Keep up the good work.
