BRAC Article
The Tribune ran an article today (mostly reprinted here) entitled "South is regional BRAC winner." The sub-headline, though, was what caught my eye: "Red/Blue distribution raising suspicion among some analysts."
Read the article. The closest it gets to what the headline says is this:
John Pike of GlobalSecurity.org, a defense analysis firm, says that while there are logical reasons for the move from the solidly Democratic Northeastern states to the mostly Republican Southern states, the trend could produce undesirable results.
"My concern is it would further polarize the country culturally into heavily militarized red states and demilitarized blue states," Pike said. "It's creating a situation where military bases are normal in states like Alabama and Texas and abnormal in states like Michigan and Wisconsin."
Doesn't sound like he's too suspicious given that he first notes that there "are logical reasons for the move." Clearly, the headline is designed to impugn Bush and the GOP by suggesting that bases were closed in 'Blue' states and moved to 'Red' states, presumably as political payback for their votes in the last election. What a load of hooey.
It's nothing more than chickensh*t innuendo by a bunch of Bush bashers. Why does the sub-headline refer to "analysts," plural, when only one is cited on the issue? Why does it refer to "suspicions" when none are even discussed?
Pure, unadulterated garbage.

The folks at the Great Falls Tribune who write the headlines need some help. I can imagine them saying, "It's late. I want to go home. These words kinda make sense."
