Memorial Day
More than Memorials.
Remember the Wounded.
The 'Greatest Generation' Deserves to have its Stories Told.
Now those are Memorial Day headlines. What do we get in the Tribune?
Sure tribute to troops serving overseas is to bring 'em home. (Reprinted from the Billings Gazette)
Yup. Instead of the usual honorarium urging remembrance of our veterans, we were treated by the Tribune to another anti-Bush/anti-Iraq war screed. "Let's make this Memorial Day more than the traditional day of mourning and tribute....Let's make it a day of action. Let's dedicate ourselves, as a nation, to ending this violent, unnecessary conflict." Somehow I don't believe the hundreds of thousands of soldiers who gave their lives for us envision Memorial Day as a day to ignore their sacrifice and instead rail against the present administration.
Is there a legitimate argument to be made for bringing home our troops? Sure. But come on, do we have to politicize Memorial Day?
