Abuse.
There were five incidents of abuse of the Koran, Qu'aran, or Quaran. I don't know how to spell it, and I am shamefully ignorant of much of its contents. (Although I must admit I am unaware of the last time a middle eastern Muslim showed an interest in learning about my culture.) As any holy book, though, I assume it mandates no murder, thievery, or the like.
Abuse of the Islamic holy book. Five times at least. Wow. Some say this rivals the treatment of millions of Soviet dissidents. Shoot, I can't say that.
By the way, does anyone know how many copies of the Bible were in the World Trade Center on 9/10/01? How many copies of the Torah?
Just curious.

Better question: how many copies of the Koran have damaged and/or destroyed by "insurgents" in Iraq when they detonate themselves and their car-bombs? Uh-huh. Real "holy" to those bastards, aint' it?
Lots of bibles, and probably no Torahs. A Torah is a handwritten scroll that is usually only found in a synagogue, as they cost a congregation in excess of $10 thousand.
In any case, mishandling a holy book just isn't cricket. It opens us up to accusations that just are not true. Our beef with the terrorists is that they are so intolerant that they make violence rather than let us live our life in peace. Our beef is not with their practice of religion.
To complain about mishandling of the Koran, which by the way does sanction murder, thievery, etc, pales in comparison to beheadings. I think this comes down to the same sort of racism that I posted about Saddam and WMDs.
Too many people are unwilling to hold these animals responsible for fear that they be accused of racism. Guess What? That is racism!
Matt, I agree that it is relativism, but why do you contend it is relativism of the worst kind? Wouldn't it be worse to flip it around, say, and justify the killing of thousands by arguing that one of their number had abused the Koran?
