Growth worries base boosters.

The Tribune had an article today about the problem with the City's growth, and the incursion into the 'wreck path' of the Malmstrom runway we are fighting to reopen.

I drove to Billings a couple days ago with two local businessmen. We discussed the issue of where Great Falls will grow, assuming it does. Growth to the east seems impeded by Malmstrom. To the North? To the West?

It seems to me that this Malmstrom issue points out the need for a 'south arterial' to provide our community with a new area for commercial growth. Why has this not been a focus for the last 10 years?

Perhaps our outgoing administration and our current bureaucracy might spend a little less time patting themselves on the back for their "vision" over the last 10 years, and start explaining to us their clear lack of same on this issue.

If Wal MArt builds in the crash zone then there is zero chance of getting another flying mission. The Munuteman III missiles have another 15 years of life. If the Munuteman III's are not replaced and the Base closes Great Falls will look like Butte.

I cant see the south arterial hurting "main street business" all that much.

The loss of 3000 military jobs and 500 high paying civilian jobs at the base would be the death knell for Great Falls. You wouldnt have to worry about business on 10th Ave South, because there wouldnt be any. Dozens of used car lots, bars and fast food joints would fold.
