Can't let this one slip by.

Did anyone else read this piece in the Sunday Tribune about two local bed and breakfasts closing?

It seems that that the City now requires these businesses to obtain a permit called a "community center" permit. While applying for this permit, the two businesses involved each lost a significant amount of their market, 30% in one case.

The community center permit is, best I can tell, a creation of our new land use code. Boy, that was a great idea, wasn't it?

So much for being "pro-business." It's really easy to think up nifty rules like this...when they don't apply to you.

A permit required primarily for parking issues, from what I can tell.

Nice to see our city is so pro-business when it comes to the little guys.

Call me cynical, but I'm guessing that the city's need to enforce this permit rule likely had much to do with a slowdown of reception bookings at the Civic Center....
