Politician (Im)perfection

Our friend at Motto has a piece up lauding Governor Schweitzer's political abilities. While I don't necessarily agree with all that Motto says, nor does good politics always equal good policy, he at least raises cogent points.

I was reminded of his piece this morning when I read about Democrat Senator Christine Kaufmann's idea to boost the taxes on beer. (Bill text here.)

Let's see, we're sitting on a BILLION DOLLAR SURPLUS, and a Democrat Senator wants to raise taxes on a product that supports our agricultural economy and is already singled out for taxation. Hmmm. (And if that's not bad enough, my dog already has a tough time scraping together enough for a six-pack.)

I guess this 'great idea' demonstrates Schweitzer's political perfection by its complete lack of same.

Politics and policy are 2 different things, and one can be impressed with the politics, but not necessarily the policy. FYI, there is a follow-up "Brilliant" on the "Politician Perfection" post, which addresses that very thing.

I think giving a dog Bud Lite is animal cruelty. But, at least it should be exempted from a beer tax. Can't possibly be enough beer in one of those cans of swill to count.
