Sign Code

Firefly has a good post up about the sign code and the fact that it is enforced sporadically.

I know of one local businessman against whom the sign code has been wielded to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars. See, he wanted to improve an existing sign with a fancy electronic reader board. "Well, ok," the City responded.

But only temporarily. He had to agree that in a few years he will tear the old sign down (with the new reader board) and replace it with a new sign (at great expense). And yet the examples cited by Firefly remain and have remained since the adoption of the code.

Hey! I know! Let's build a coal plant!
