Too Easy on Government
One of the recurrent themes I am reading in comments (one here), and that I happen to agree with, is that the Great Falls Tribune is far too easy on our city administration. In fact, there was a letter to the editor in the paper to that effect in the last week or so.
Some of the topics raised in this regard are Mayor Gray's land deal with the City and MacKenzie River Pizza, the Tribune's willingness to allow Mayor Gray to excoriate a local businessman on the front page of the paper for daring to speak up at a City Commission meeting, and the Tribune's dismissive approach to the Explore: The Big Sky financial issues.
Now these are topics one would normally expect a local daily to cover and dig on. Yet, if anything, an argument can be made that the Tribune provides cover rather than daylight.
What do you all think? Is the Tribune too easy on local government? If so, what can be done about it, anything?

Far too easy on the city administration. And the only thing that can be done about it is bloggers pointing out how inept the Trib and the city administration are. Dumb question... but has anyone announced they're running against the mayor?
Watch this space for more, but I'm voting for Dona Stebbins.
The Trib is very easy on the City, County and School Board administrations. I don't know what can be done about it. Not more than a small percentage of the people in our town are going to read blogs. There also is no viable business model for a town this small to publish a rival rag.
In answer to Jim, two candidates have filed against the mayor, Dona Stebbins and another gentleman. One non-establishment candidate has also filed for City Commission, Stuart Lewin.
Actually, the other candidate for mayor is Mike Kaszula, and there are two additional Commission candidates in addition to the incumbents, Bill Beecher and John Rosenbaum. They are "Buck" Burke and John Stevens.
